Our Story

A family
came home.

Bill came to this land as a boy of eight, and it shaped him the way good ground shapes a person. Life carried the family into town for a while — but some places never quite let you go.

So in 1975 we bought the farm from Bill's mother and turned up the lane for good. Every season since, we've worked these gardens, raised our cattle, gentled our horses, and passed baskets of fresh produce across the very fields where Bill once ran as a boy.

The Ohio Valley Farmers' Market

The market is where most of our harvest goes. You'll find me behind the table most weeks in season — fill a bag with whatever was just picked, and talk tomatoes with someone who's been growing them a good long while. Everything on the table is Certified Naturally Grown: no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, ever.

The Roadside Stand

Out at the farm.

Closer to home, we set out the best of the day's picking at our roadside self-serve stand. It's still finding its rhythm — stocked when the gardens are giving and we're caught up on the picking — so it's best to call ahead. Everything we grow is Certified Naturally Grown.

Leave your money in the box.

The self-serve stand sits along the road, open and unattended through the season. Everything's clearly priced — just take what you'd like and leave your payment in the box. That bit of trust is one of the best things about farming in this valley.

Plant Orders

Plant starts.

Each year we grow a big selection of Certified Naturally Grown vegetable & herb plants — started by hand and sold by pre-order for your spring garden.

Orders are due by the end of March, with pickup around the second week of May. Call or text 740·310·0128 to order, or to be notified when the form opens.

Farm-fresh eggs.

Our hens live the way hens ought to — out on pasture, free to roam, scratch, and forage in the sun.

  • Pasture-raised & free-range. Out on grass every day, never crammed in a cage.
  • Organically fed. Clean, organic feed — nothing medicated or artificial.
  • You can taste the difference. Deep golden yolks, firmer whites, and the rich flavor folks remember real eggs having.

The wider life of the land.

Beyond the gardens, Lone Oak keeps a small herd of British White cattle — and, under Lone Oak Horsemanship, our granddaughter is beginning to teach the next generation of riders.

British White Cattle.

An old, hardy heritage breed — striking white coats set off by dark ears, eyes, and muzzle. We raise them for their gentle temperament, good mothering, and the kind of quiet presence that suits this ground.

Lone Oak Horsemanship

Riding lessons, now enrolling.

Under the name Lone Oak Horsemanship, our granddaughter is taking on riding-lesson students now — patient, fundamentals-first instruction for new and growing riders. Full horse training is on the way as the facilities come together over the next year. Reach out to set up a lesson, or to ask about training down the road.
